Prelim drawing Queen Maxima of Netherlands by Gloria Poole of Missouri and Georgia

I, Gloria Poole, residing in Missouri but born in state of Georgia, am posting here to this blog of mine, the preliminary drawing I made of the Queen Maxima of The Netherlands. I drew it from a news photo. It is only the preliminary drawing in pencil with light watercolors over it to “test” the drawing, sort of as an underpainting.  I will repaint this in acrylics and repost it. But I had tweeted that I had the pencil drawing done. This is a do-over because I drew her too thin, and her arms too long. Sometimes I can’t tell I have the proportions wrong until I paint it in watercolors which makes it stand-out from the white background paper. This is 14 x 17 on paper. Also, I am not perfect on painting diamonds or satiny fabrics. The cross-hatching I did on the dress and shawl almost make the dress and shawl appear to be linen but that is not how they looked in the photo. So, that is another reason to repaint it. I have sketched Royals several time and of course they are real, living people. To see the other sketches of Royals I drew painted signed photographed uploaded you have to see https://gloriapoole.blogspot.com [one of my main blogs] and also:

Amaryllis sketch by Gloria Poole of Missouri and Georgia Saturday, May 17 2014

Amaryllis sketch by Gloria Poole of Missouri and Georgia

“Amaryllis” sketch by Gloria Poole, residing in Missouri but born in state of Georgia, drew this, painted it, signed it, photographed it several times on my drawing board, and uploaded it to this blog of mine today 17 May 2014 at 8:36am. It is mixed media of watercolor and acrylic and is 14 x 17 inches in size on paper. I drew it first, then painted the red blooms with watercolor, then decided the watercolor was too translucent, and didn’t do justice to the gorgeous blooms, so repainted it in acrylic. I always try to stick with about 3 colors of pigments in any sketch or painting because too many give anything a chaotic, not pleasing, confused sort of look. So, I consciously try to design the composition in a way that is aesthetically appealing even if one doesn’t understand what it is, or what is means. I think amaryllis flowers are so beautiful and poinsettias too, but that is because I LOVE the color red. I created a mini-exhibit of art I created with red paint twice on my https://mini-exhibition.blogspot.com, blog and on other blogs of mine also. I also made mini exhibits of the art I created with blue paint on https://artist-gloriapoole.blogspot.com; and art I created with green paint on my :https://gpoole817.blogspot.com and https://gloriapoole-paintings.blogspot.com.
